Paul Andre’s art reflects the diverse background and life he has lived.
Born 1959 in England and grew up in the very rural area of Kent, he from a very young age was always designing, drawing and cooking, he spent hours in his own little world creating. He moved to london in 1976 to pursue a chef apprenticeship, which led to eventually open a restaurant in the seaside town of Ramsgate, which he run until his move back to London in 1991.
When he stated to a friend that he loved the painting on the wall and that he’d like one for himself , he was simply given a blank canvas and told “paint one yourself” …And so he did.
Paul Andre’s inspiration is drawn not just from those that surround him and the environment that he inhabits , but also from afar . His lust to experience all the world has led him to travel extensively, from cities including Madrid, Venice, New York and Barcelona to further afield including Thailand, Australia , and even settling in Marreckesh and Fort Lauderdale for short periods . As an individual who’s own life is filled with great passion, he successfully transfers this to canvas, creating artwork that brings life to living spaces and a sense of calm amidst our chaotic world .
Playful, joyful, energetic and colourful, his canvas appear very simple: sunset, sea, flowers, colour and texture. He likes to juggle these elements so it seems to be sophisticated and playful at the same time. The results are unique, immediately recognisable and vibrant.
His inspiration is from the environment and from nature, including many unique aspects; weather, rusting metal, ageing wood, water, dilapidated buildings, peeling paint, stones and rocks or just the city lights at night. He sees inspiration everywhere, often in unanticipated places; from the surface of a body of water to the rustic, industrial warehouse floor. His creative process involves experimenting with various mediums and methods of infusing texture, iridescence and illumination. The natural ability to create vibrant pieces is complimented by the humility he shows and has led to pieces being displayed across the globe .
Paul’s first exhibition was held at Artista Restaurant , Charlotte St . W1 London .
Paul Andre moved to Berlin in 2009 and finally in 2015 decided to settle and set up a Studio. He now calls Berlin his base , but the world his home. If the world is his home , then it is truly adorned with stunning artwork.
